Open Labs has had an incredibly exciting 2017 – wrapping up big contests, listening to countless talented musicians on the rise, all while updating and improving our music creation tool Stagelight with brand new features and sounds. We are so grateful to our community members who continue to show support and and excitement for the future of Stagelight and Open Labs’ goal to make music production accessible for everyone.

Let’s look back at some of our favorite moments of 2017!

Stagelight Artists

Some truly inspiring new artists stepped up to the plate for our Stagelight Monthly Music Contest II. We even had the pleasure to visit some of our favorite acts in their native cities. After connecting with rock band No Resolve in Detroit, we hit up artists Jaycee and Jarrett Hoyt in Buffalo. In Los Angeles, Lauren Dair graced us with her incredible voice and also had the chance to talk about her process. You can check out some of their tracks below – you’ll like what you hear.

Lauren Dair would go on to be selected by Linkin Park as the grand prize winner of the contest for her single “Monster”. Another huge congratulations to Lauren Dair for the win! Stay tuned for the contest to wrap up in early 2018!

As you may know, Linkin Park has been through a lot this year. Shortly after releasing a brand new album, the world suffered the loss of Chester Bennington. His light is something the band and many of us are still struggling to live without. Linkin Park’s Celebration of Life concert for Chester was incredibly moving. He was an inspiration to many fans and will be so deeply missed. Rest in peace Chester.

2017 brought a whole year’s worth of innovations and new features for Stagelight, all of which can be seen in our latest release: Stagelight 3.2 for Android, ChromeOS, macOS and Windows. We’re very excited about the new ability to save and load songs to Microsoft OneDrive and Google drive for easy backups and sharing.

There were a ton of requests from users to add song editing features to Stagelight. We’re pleased to announce that you can now rename tracks, add your own custom images, and delete old song files right from the app. We also added improved MIDI importing and exporting, support for more models of Chromebook, German and French translations, and all New V3 Feature Unlock offerings in the in-app store. Stagelight Loops, Presets, Sounds

2017 was also a great year for new sound packs! From spooky loops packs like Brooders and the Follower, to sizzling summer packs like Trap King and Vector Wave – Stagelight creators had plenty of new content to mess around with. Our new line of soundtrack packs, like the swelling Heroes sound pack, or the suspense building Thin Ice pack, help round out our huge library of samples, loops, and synths. No matter what kind of music you like to make, we’re positive you’ll find everything you need right in the app! Listen to more HERE
