SXSW 2015: Recapping the Stagelight Experience
Intel DevTech Interactive Mixer
During the Interactive Festival, we joined our amazing partner Intel at the Moonshine Patio Bar and Grill to be apart of the Intel Development Technology Mixer. DJ/Composer Justin Lassen bumped the house with the Stagelight app while showcasing it’s advanced capabilities on Windows laptops, 2-in-1 devices and select Android tablets (Intel architecture). Justin mixed up everything from chart-topping Imagine Dragons to the b-side electronics of Aphex Twins using all next gen Intel technology to a backdrop of LED color-changing pyramids and even dancing spider drones. The Dev Tech Mixer wasn’t just about the music though, it also brought in enthusiasts seeking to win giveaways and game developers who showcased new beta apps using Intel’s RealSense technology to control games by only gestures. Check out this short clip to see it all in action.
The FaderFort Powered by Dell and Intel
Open Labs was excited to return for the third year in a row to the best day party in town, The Fader Fort, whose history includes hosting the first ever 4K live streaming concert. Needless to say, it was awesome! Every year Converse, The Fader, Dell and Intel bring the best in music, style and technology to SXSW daytime and evening showcases. Besides the rain that happened on the last 2 of the 5 day run, I’d say it was a smashing success!
Opening night brought in the buzz with Indie headliners Passion Pit rockin’ the main stage. Before the show, Open Labs set up for all the Press coverage in Dell’s sleek technology venue giving demo sneak peaks of Stagelight 2.1 and our new Android version.
Day two was the first day of the Fader Fort in full swing. The Open Labs team gave out FREE copies of Stagelight to the festival goers and demoed the unreleased 2.1 version of Stagelight. Let’s just say that people’s reactions to the app were truly incredible.
One music fan said “This is much easier than Garageband!”
With Stagelight’s new enhancements to beat making, people can now dial in drums faster and easier than ever. With Stagelight’s AutoFill, people were making beats in seconds which literally shocked the ‘non-musicians’ who tried out “The Easy Way To Create Music.” Check out the Fader Fort coverage below to see the first glimpses of Stagelight 2.1 in action.
Each day Open Labs held down the Fort powering through endless demos, crowds and lines. Even Friday’s heavy rain and flash flooding didn’t stop the music for the dedicated fans and attendees. The Fader Fort concerts streamed all week long in beautiful 4K via Dell and Intel technology. The culture and sounds from the DJ booth bumped in between each artist’s set. So many talented bands and artists performed on the big stage including Migos, Hudson Mohawk, Bleachers and Dej Loaf. Some of the standout performance came from the sultry female fronted Seinabo Sey and rapper Vince Staples who pumped the crowd with his west coast style hip hop.
Every year The Fader Fort has it’s special guest and celebrity surprises and this year really did raise the bar. Mike Will Made It took that star power to the next level after he brought out Miley Cyrus for their song “23.” Another banging surprise guest was T-Pain, who powered through a crushing 42 song set that reminded everyone that he doesn’t need ANY auto-tune to boast. Lastly our favorite surprise was the one and only Timbaland who hyped up the Fader Fort to introduce his new artist Tink. Her sound, style and flow was spot on and paired so well with that signature ‘Timbo’ sound. Check out her new Timbaland produced single Ratchet Commandments HERE.
Overall The Fader Fort was a blast. Big thanks to our wonderful partners Dell and Intel! It was an epic SXSW 2015 indeed. Want to see more from the Open Labs’ SXSW experience? Check out the photo coverage on our Facebook HERE.
See you next year at SXSW 2016!
